We had about 8" of snow show up and get the trails in great shape just in time for a week of 40 degree weather. There are some bare spots along the trail, so please be careful. As well, we would ask that you be gentle on the snow because the more dirt that gets kicked up, the faster the snow conditions will deteriorate.
As of last evening, the ride to Fish Lake from the Lavaque Road was actually pretty good, unfortunately someone rode a 4 wheeler down the Sunset spur trail when the trail was soft and put big ruts in it that are now frozen and even the new snow did not help. I’m sure a pass with the groomer will fix it though. Other than that the new snow really made things pretty nice. The Hermantown trail was actually in better shape than the North Shore trail last night.
The snow is coming down! This storm has us anticipating 3 - 5 inches of the white stuff, which would get us a much better base out there. Please exercise courtesy to your fellow riders and be light on the throttle, as the more you rip up the trail, the less time it will last. Keep doing your snow dance!
Currently the trail is technically open, but we ask that sleds either remain off the trails, or, at least only utilize the trail if absolutely necessary. A warm spell that just recently ended has taken away snow, exposed rocks, and opened streams across the area. The trails are currently in very poor shape and will remain so until we get another round of snow. Please exercise caution as there are many areas that may be challenging or impassable.
